Spanning the Millenia: The Jews of Italy
This Class is Zoom only and will continue on April 23rd and 30th.
Instructor: Jehon Grist, Ph.D., Senior Educator, New Lehrhaus
To register: email Mary Schwartz at maryschwartz64@yahoo.com
Jews first arrived in Italy over 2,000 years ago and their saga stretches all the way to the vibrant community we know today. Our class will chronicle this journey through the centuries from the later Biblical period to the current day. We’ll discover the roller coaster relationship between the imperial Roman government and the Jews; the arrival of Christianity and its consequences; the exciting but often troubled times of the Renaissance; and the emergence of the Jewish community through the Holocaust years and on to modern times. Richly illustrated with a number of recommended readings provided, our class brings this community’s amazing story to life and serves as great preparation if you’re planning a trip to Italy!
